FBI and Global Agencies Disrupt Crypto-Stealing Botnets in Major Cyber Operation
The FBI and international law enforcement partners have executed a significant blow against cybercriminals targeting cryptocurrency users. Operation Endgame, launched in May 2024, resulted in the seizure of 1,025 servers, 20 domains, and one arrest in Greece. This marks the third major takedown under the initiative.
Authorities targeted three primary malware strains: Rhadamanthys, a sophisticated infostealer marketed as malware-as-a-service; VenomRAT, a remote access Trojan used for surveillance; and Elysium, a stealth botnet known for cryptomining attacks. These tools have been instrumental in the recent surge of crypto wallet drains and financial fraud.
Rhadamanthys poses particular danger to crypto holders, specializing in harvesting seed phrases, wallet files, and exchange credentials. Its takedown represents a critical victory for ecosystem security as phishing crews increasingly rely on such tools.
